There are textbooks and text messages, so text can range in what it means. To me it is about anything that you can read and comprehend. Text is writing your words down whether it is for homework, a book, or texting to your friends. I don't know how to really elaborate more than that because it has such a wide range of definition. It can be seen as a way to express how you feel or explain a math problem. Basically if you can read it and it is somehow written down, whether electronically or on paper, then it is text.
